The estate has always grafted onto rootstocks, with a view to producing the best network of roots. Vines grafted in the 1970s and 80s used grafts from Château Pradeaux. Apart from vines planted between 1988 and 1992 grown from clones for ease, the entire vineyard is based on massal selection. Whether the selection is massal or clonal, terroir has gradually made its mark on the vine. The main rootstock is the R110, chosen for its resistance to drought and significant levels of calcium. Planting is thus carried out in 2 stages, planting of the rootstocks and grafting with grafts taken from our own vines 2 to 3 years before. This considerable job requires great care, but gives the best results, thus enabling us to perpetuate our plant inheritance. This year we are looking at approaching nurserymen who carry out massal selection for replacements.
